A bedroom should be the last thing you see and the first thing you feel. We designed for that threshold.

This Westchester commission asked us to think carefully about something we rarely prioritise in design: the end and beginning of every day. The clients — a couple with three children and demanding professional lives — came to us wanting more than a beautiful house. They wanted a home that actively supported restoration. The full residential redesign began and ended with the private spaces: the master suite, two children's rooms, and a shared morning room that bridges the private quarters of the house. Every spatial decision was made through the lens of sleep, rest, and the ritual of waking.

Circadian lighting was integrated throughout — warm-toned at dusk, shifting imperceptibly through the night, and rising softly with the sun to facilitate a gentler waking. The custom bed joinery in each room is built to contain not just the mattress but the entire emotional architecture of rest: bedside surfaces at the right height, integrated reading light controls, and concealed drawer storage that eliminates visual clutter before sleep. The colour palette was lifted entirely from the natural landscape visible beyond the windows — greige stone, dried grass, pale bark, and the deep olive of mature yew. The result is a home whose private rooms feel genuinely restorative, a quality far rarer than it should be.
