Food is ceremony. The kitchen should be worthy of it.
Our client in Brooklyn Heights is a passionate home chef who cooks not out of necessity, but out of devotion. She needed a kitchen that could perform at the level she demanded — generous worktops, professional-grade appliances, intelligent storage — but that also carried the visual weight of a room she was proud to entertain in. We set out to design a show kitchen: a space where the act of cooking is elevated to art, and where guests gathered around the island feel drawn into the ritual of preparation rather than shut out from it.
Material selection was the defining conversation of this project. We chose honed Calacatta marble for the island and primary worktops — its matte surface warm rather than clinical, its veining gentle and geological. The cabinetry is oiled oak, left slightly open-grained to soften the lines of the joinery and develop a patina with time. Hardware throughout is aged brass: handles, tap fittings, and the custom shelf brackets that anchor the open shelving above the range. The palette is quiet but rich, and the kitchen has the settled, earned quality of a room that has been loved for decades rather than installed last season.
